What are your turnaround times like?
Turnaround times vary depending on factors like length and quality of writing.That being said, I generally aim for around a month for the copyediting and proofreading services. If you need it faster, we can discuss.For the manuscript assessment and the “I’m not sure” services, those will be subject to the specifics of your project but will generally be a bit faster.

What are your qualifications?
I took a roundabout way to get here—I thought I was going to be an architect!But since becoming an editor, I’ve worked on improving my skills and knowledge through the help of professional organizations, like the Editorial Freelancers Association and ACES: The Society for Editing, and their online courses, webinars, forums, and conferences. What kinds of nonfiction books have you worked on?
So far, I’ve primarily worked with traditionally published authors. Projects include memoirs from politicians, self help from a relationship expert, family history from a military couple, and even a true crime/conspiracy book!You can see some of my past work and clients on my Portfolio page.
Why should I hire you? Can't I just use generative AI?
The short answer: Yes, of course you can use generative AI—ChatGPT, Claude, or whatever you prefer.But if you’re still on the fence or just curious, please let me try to briefly explain my stance.The real answer:
First, to give you some specifics of the disadvantages:
There are issues with consistency.
It repeats phrases/words.
It interprets meaning and intent incorrectly.
It dumbs/dulls down your message.
Your text can lose any perceived authority and scholarship with your readers.
You can lose trust with your readers and stakeholders.
It shows that you don’t trust your own voice and logic. So why should the reader?
Do you use generative AI?
No. The tools I use are Microsoft Word, macros in Microsoft Word, PerfectIt (a consistency checker, not powered by AI), and the magic of just reading out loud.And in case it's a question, I also did not use any AI in the creation of this website, including its design, functionality, and content.

Hi! I’m Ja Racharaks, and I’ve always loved creating and shaping experiences.
But I thought I wanted to do this in the physical world. I studied to be an architect.My dad was an architect, and I grew up fascinated with how you could evoke visceral sensations through the direction of form, light, and materials. I eventually realized that words, sentences, and paragraphs were how I wanted to connect with the world around me, first as a writer and now also as an editor. It’s taken me over twenty (!) years to get to this point, but I’m proud of my journey, and I look forward to learning more.
I’m also a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) and the American Copy Editors Society (ACES) to keep up with the current editing approaches, standards, needs, and styles.Because I’m committed to delivering the best work, continuing education is very important to me. I take courses offered from the EFA, ACES, and other reputable institutions to keep my skills sharp and improve my quality of work.I currently live in Bangkok with my partner and two cats (both foster fails).
